Android is Launching New Scam Protection Protocols
Michael Hemsworth — May 14, 2025 — Tech
Android users are slated to start receiving more scam protection features from Google as part of the brand's commitment to reducing fraud and preventing users from falling victim to call scams. The operating system will now automatically block users from sideloading an app when they're on a call with an unknown contact, which could help them to stay safer in the face of tricky scammers. The OS will also stop users from allowing apps from receiving accessibility permissions when on a call to prevent dangerous apps from stealing info or even gaining control of their device.
The latest scam protection features will roll out on Android 16 devices and have been announced alongside another feature that's being tested. This will discourage users from sharing their screen when on a call when opening their banking app.
