The RONDIN Bench-Carpet Introduces a New Approach to Functional Design

— September 26, 2025 — Art & Design
The RONDIN is a uniquely created bench-carpet hybrid by Arnaud Lapierre that reimagines seating as an architectural gesture that extends into the floor. Installed in the reception hall of the French Ministry of Culture, the 16-foot-long work blends a cylindrical bench with a carpeted base, inviting users to sit upright, recline, or simply occupy the space in a more fluid way.

The RONDIN is inspired by the fresco The Triumph of Love by the Gods; the palette anchors the piece in classical references while expressing contemporary sensibility. More than furniture, RONDIN creates a layered dialogue between object and environment, reshaping the traditional waiting area into a unified composition. The project highlights how design can blur categories, transforming ordinary furniture into a spatial experience that elevates public interiors.
